I can still remember the first time I visited Springleaf Prata Place. They had just released their specialty Prata dish that year – the (OG) Murtaburger. I tried it and I remember thinking “ZOMG this is so awesome…”. I love me some good Roti Prata but they were taking it to the next level!
Well, fast forward a few years later and Springleaf Prata Place has more outlets and definitely more on the menu than just Prata. After all, what’s better than a place with a menu that has something for everyone right? 😉
So Springleaf Prata Place comes up with a specialty Prata every year in conjunction with the Ultimate Hawker Fest. This year sees the debut of Däs Pratwurst to the line-up. And trust me, it’s a pretty awesome line-up!
As always, the ideas always come based on experiences. For Däs Pratwurst, it’s based on Springleaf Prata Place’s Boss Guna who had enjoyed the famous German street food known as ‘Currywurst’ when on holiday there. He liked it some much that he tweaked it a little and the result is the Halal and tasty Däs Pratwurst.
Within the crisp Prata envelope, you’ll find their in-house made chicken sausage, sauteed onions, Mozzarella cheese plus some Sauerkraut and a special curry sauce on the side. PRO TIP – try to get a bit of everything in a mouthful to enjoy the combination of the many flavours and textures.
PLUS I like to ask for more of that SHIOK curry sauce on the side 😛
One of my all-time favourites from Springleaf Prata Place has got to be the Plaster Blaster. You cannot go wrong with this Prata-version of Eggs Benedict. Did you know that they make everything in-house including the Hollandaise sauce? That’s something they really take pride in at SPP – making everything in-house.
If you haven’t tried it, you must.
Like I mentioned earlier, there’s more than just Prata on the menu. Case in point – the Lamb Shank Briyani is definitely a good choice for something more. A good hearty serving of tasty Briyani with a spiced, tender and super flavourful Lamb Shank to go along.
They have your usual faves like Chicken Briyani and the likes too of course but if you’re looking for something different and delicious, this is it.
Speaking of delicious… This was the first time I was trying the Fish Head Curry here and I gotta say FUYOH it was super power! I think maybe the fact that it was served hot and bubbling in a claypot had a lot to do with it 😛
Spicy, flavourful and sedap! Whack this with some hot white rice SHIOK!! Gather up your makan kaki gang who enjoys Fish Head Curry and I guarantee at the end you’ll only have an empty claypot and some fish bones.
On the other end of the spectrum, you can go for something a little milder with the Eco-Friendly Noodles. I’m thinking this is good for those who may not like spicy food or perhaps the perfect choice for the kids!
And what exactly is so special about these Eco-Friendly Noodles? Well, they use all sustainable ingredients plus – they’re air-fried :O
Slotting in a couple more specialty Pratas you can find on the menu. The Murtaburger is one of the OG creations at Springleaf Prata Place. The original one has their own in-house Lamb Patty as part of the filling. But if you’re not a fan of lamb or looking for a meat-free alternative, the latest version uses Impossible Meat!
Think of the Impossible Murtaburger as that meat-free alternative that still tastes awesome! Plenty of Mozzarella Cheese and sauce to bee found within of course!
The Lā Ayam Parotta is a bit more of a unique take. It’s got pulled chicken, shredded cabbage, bell peppers, Mozzarella cheese and their own special Sambal concoction. FUN FACT: the name sounds like macam Italian but… it’s actually Lā (as in the Chinese word for ‘pulled’), Ayam (Malay for chicken) and Parotta (Prata in Tamil) which breaks down the name if it was in English – Pulled Chicken Prata 😀
And last but not least, who can resist ending with some sweet Prata am I right? You might consider the Milky Prata (which also has some egg in it) but I’m a sucker for Paper Prata (even Thosai I tend to take Paper ones!). It’s all about the crisp!
The Paper Milk Prata is ultra thin, crispy and has condensed milk drizzled all over it. FUYOH!
Of course, this is just the tip of the iceberg… there are SO MANY more different Pratas to enjoy on the menu. Even for their specialty Prata, there are other interesting ones to try. I haven’t even mentioned other like Prata Alfredo, The Ultimate Murtabak, Salted Egg Prawn Prata, Chicken Floss Prata and the list goes on… It’ll be interesting to see what’s next on their annual new creation list!
And don’t forget to wash it all down with some refreshing beverages. If the sweet and cold doesn’t do it for you, there’s always the classic Teh Tarik 😉
I guess for Springleaf Prata Place, I can see that it’s not just about being innovative but sticking to the basic principle that the food has got to be good. That’s why they pride themselves on making almost all of their ingredients in-house which allows them to ensure top quality.
They’ve also got several outlets across the island so you can get your Springleaf Prata fix wherever you may be. I released a video quite awhile back and while some things have changed (they now have many more outlets than stated in the video!), the food still looks awesome so I’m gonna share it again LOL 😀
See y’all at Springleaf Prata Place!
