Savor Avenue – Delicious Halal Kueh Chang

Halal Kueh Chang – probably one of the rarest delicacies I can think of. Sure, they have been a few options over recent years but they kinda seem to have faded away somehow. Options these days are few and far between. Well, rejoice my fellow lovers of Kueh Chang – Savor Avenue has got some really good ones!

What originally began as Flavor Avenue, churning out sweet treats like cakes, scones and Nutella Pods, has evolved into something a little different. I guess you could say that Savor Avenue is a spin-off. Here, they’ve concentrated their efforts on the savoury side of things.

And thank goodness they did ??

Kueh Chang ($3.50 each)

There are a few different types  but Savor Avenue offers just one type (which I feel is the best type) – the Nonya style. This means this glutinous rice dumpling is chock-full of goodies like beef brisket (replacing the usual non-Halal protein in the original versions), mushroom, chestnuts, candied wintermelon and dried shrimp.

These are all wrapped in Bamboo leaves and steamed. The result is a flavour bomb that’ll satisfy your cravings for sure. Seems like there is a lot going on but it’s actually really simple. It’s delicious and it’s Halal. What’s even more amazing that it’s priced at $3.50 each ONLY (which is literally like market price out there even for non-Halal ones).

I quite enjoy a good rice dumpling and have been getting my fix via the RTE ones available at 7-11. Those are good but I have to admit that there’s nothing quite like a fresh one and these hit the right spots. I enjoyed this Kueh Chang so much that I ate 3 during my first sitting ?. 2x Kueh Chang and 2x Lepat Chang!

Lepat Chang ($2.00)

Hae Bee Hiam & Serunding

Lepat is something we’re probably familiar with right? I found it really interesting that it’s in Chang form here. Glutinous rice infused with coconut and some black eyed peas (no, not the musical group) for added texture.

They have their own Hae Bee Hiam (dried shrimp sambal) & Serunding too by the way. You’re meant enjoy them with the Lepat Chang but I have to confess – I enjoyed the Hae Bee Hiam with the Kueh Chang too ?.

Either way, I highly recommend the Kueh Chang and Lepat Chang from Savor Avenue. You can even keep them up to 3 months in the freezer! But I’d recommend buying and having fresh and shiok! Have I mentioned that this is a home-based business? That’s right – these goodies all churned from home. How amazing is that! Great Kueh Chang at a great price.

Here’s hoping they continue to churn out more delicious Kueh Chang in future! Perhaps some new variations? I would start with adding salted egg yolk ? LOL! Perhaps a Chicken Kueh Chang variation? Very excited to see how they grow! Let’s support our home-based businesses! Especially this one because Kueh Chang is just so hard to find.
