We’ve never been to any of the original Art Box events in Thailand but it seems all the rage these days! Well, Art Box Singapore is here! Dubbed as one of the coolest and hippest ‘pop-up creative markets’ in the region and they’ve finally brought a Singapore edition about. We’re talking about A to Z here as you can do a bit of shopping here and there and of course, indulge in some mighty fine makan!
Art Box Singapore is being held over 2 weekends – 14-16 April 2017 and 21-23 April 2017.
Timings start from 3pm til 11pm and location is at the Bayfront Event Space (beside Marina Bay Sands).
Technically, it’s a giant up-market pasar malam lah LOL There are more than 300 booths set-up at Art Box Singapore with more than 100 tagged as food booths. But just how many of these food stalls were going to be Halal eh? I mean, after all, we head down for some shopping surely gonna cari some makan right? In fact, I think quite a lot might head down just for the makan LOL
Well, saw a few lists online but seems like most are not quite comprehensive. And with information from the organizers kept to a minimum, we decided to take matters into our own hands! So a few hours before the event opened and the crowds descended upon MBS, we braved the scorching sun (and subsequent rain storm) to literally walk the ground (while the booths were being set-up!) and confirm what’s available for us to makan! And there are definitely more than 5!
1. I Suka Delights
IG: @isukadelights
Status: Muslim-owned
Gonna be there: Both weekends
Here’s one that serves up some pretty power street food! I Suka Delights is a relatively new name on the scene but we’re pretty sure they’re gonna be a pretty instant hit just by looking at their menu!
They’ve got stuff like Hot Dogs, Cheese Fries and Chicken Wings and popular Tex-Mex fare like Nachos and Fajitas. And don’t forget to get one (or three!) of their colourful Mojitos (sans alcohol of course) too!
2. Yossakul’s Thai Kitchen
IG: @yossakulsthaikitchen
Status: Muslim-owned
Gonna be there: Both weekends
Yeah you’ve most probably seen Yossakul’s at quite a few events in the past and they have definitely made a name for serving up some pretty tasty Thai favourites!
Look out for crowd pleasers like their Thai Mango Salad (with chili padi!), Thai Milks Teas and Mango Sticky Rice too! Gotta have some Thai flavours at an event originally from Thailand right!

Dendeng Duo are at Art Box Singapore and they’ve brought plenty of Dendeng and more! Besides their signature Dendeng (which is one of the best things in the whole world), they’ve also got the classics like Taco Dendeng and Burger Dendeng where the patty is made of Dendeng!! Latest addition to the menu is the Burger Ronaldo which is a crispy chicken burger with cheese sauce.
Dendeng Duo are also at the Bazaar at Tampines MRT til the end of April by the way!

Surely you’ve heard of The Lab right? Their cafe at Jalan Pisang has become the stuff of legends thanks to their willingness to ‘experiment’ with new ideas and of course, churning out great food!

And where The Lab is to be found, Sinseh: The Grocery is bound to be nearby too!

Did someone say Galaxy Donuts?
8. Fancy Foodies

Gonna be there: 14-16 April only
Sorry this one seems so bare but it’s pretty much all we could get from this stall LOL
And no, they don’t have any social media accounts. Yet.
Saw them while they were setting up and can’t help but think about that Pad Thai and Tom Yum Seafood Noodles! If we do head back to Art Box Singapore, this is definitely going to be a stall we visit. Show some support!!
Now, excuse me while I try to convince them to set up a Facebook and/or Instagram account!

I remember when we first tried O’Braim a couple of years ago! And now they’re the #1 name when it comes to banana snacks in our books.

We haven’t quite taken to the idea (we have sensitive teeth LOL) but as you can see, everyone loves it and here’syour chance to try it for yourselves at Art Box Singapore!
PS I’m not ashamed to admit it took me awhile to realize that Coyoro is basically COol YOghurt ROll…
13. Kane Mochi
IG: @kanemochi.sg

Saw them at the last Laloolalang and they’re back again at Art Box Singapore! Kane Mochi also has a store but since you’re at Art Box Singapore, you should definitely try some here and then go back to their store and get more LOL

With one of the more interesting (and by interesting, I mean risque to the max) names, TIT Singapore specializes in one thing – T.I.T aka Thai Iced Tea! We haven’t had the pleasure of trying yet (because we went down when all still setting up remember?) but it looks good! Although some of the names on the menu do raise an eyebrow or 2 (like the D Cup which is like a giant cup of goodies LOL)
But I absolutely LOVE their logo and look forward to trying their TIT Thai Iced Teas!

19. Street Submarine
IG: @streetsubmarine
Status: Muslim-owned
Gonna be there: 21-23 April only
This one is literally brand new and hot off the press! How new exactly are we talking about? Well, as of now, there’s only 1 follower on their IG – US! LOL so please lah go and show some support okay! Follow them on IG and then go hunt them down this weekend at Art Box Singapore!
What do they offer? Looks like one of the familiar crowd favourites from the bazaars during Ramadhan! I don’t know what is the official name but I personally call it “Roti Dengan Daging Sedap” LOL no joke!
Well kiddies there you have it. That’s what we found when we visited and I have to say that is quite a list! Although we obviously wish there were more Halal options, I guess this is not a bad start! Plus, it’s quite a lot to choose from to enjoy while you browse through the other non-food stalls and hopefully pick up something cool to wear or a trinket to display in your home or office! By the way, you can pay with NETS!
Having said that, we also understand that some of the vendors are there for both weekends while some of them are only there for one of either weekends. This could, of course, change and some vendors may end up being their for both weekends in the end plus new vendors may show up only for the 2nd week. If we get any updates, we will update here accordingly of course.
All the information we have included in this post is based on information we have gotten directly from the stall owners / businesses themselves. As always, it’s easy to get confused when you see information so widely shared sometimes so be sure to double-check if needed. As always, it’s an individual responsibility so if in doubt, best to give it a miss 🙂
This inaugural Art Box Singapore is being held over 2 weekends – 14-16 April 2017 and 21-23 April 2017. Timings start from 3pm til 11pm and location is at the Bayfront Event Space (beside Marina Bay Sands).
Based on what we’ve seen online, looks like MASSIVE crowds during the first weekend with plenty of negative feedback about organizers and location. Really crampy lanes which means really packo human traffic! I wouldn’t advise strollers because besides the very narrow walking lanes, some parts are grass plus lots of obstructions. Maybe elderly and kids might wanna sit this one out if you see it’s too crowded?
But then again, who knows, maybe the 2nd weekend will be better? Hopefully the organizers implemented some quick fixes based on the first week’s event!
Well, if you can brave all that and also the weather, remember to stay safe and have fun! Head down if you can and let’s show some love to our vendors! If nobody goes, then they suffer the most so let’s support our local vendors!! Be sure to tag us in your photos of makan at Art Box Singapore okay! ENJOY!!!
