Mr Wholly – Wholly Seafood Specials!

Your favourite legendary seafood specialist is now located at a more central location and they’ve got even BIGGER plans with their menu! 😀

Mr Wholly  was arguably one of the most popular makan options when they were located at Satay by the Bay. Well, they’ve packed up and moved to a location that many of you will probably be familiar with. Located right in the heart of Kampong Glam, FOMO is the new home of Mr Wholly!

We all know they’re great at churning out their tasty seafood buckets right? But what if we told you that they’ve got several new dishes on the menu that will have you making a face like ? NO JOKE!

Presenting – the Wholly series of Seafood Specials!!
A range of dishes that are familiar local favourites but with that Mr Wholly twist! And by twist, we mean copious amounts of seafood including some very premium ingredients!

Wholly Laksa ($49.90)

Are you going ? yet? LOL (and this is just the beginning oh!)

The Wholly Laksa is an upsized version of your favourite lemak-y Laksa. With (almost) an oceanful of seafood paired with Laksa noodles, a few other goodies and a rich Laksa gravy, it’ll be pretty hard for you to resist am I right?

So what stuff exactly are we talking about in The Wholly Laksa?

Well! To start with, there’s a WHOLE Boston Lobster just sitting atop everything like a king (yeah, a king that’s about to be DEVOURED! :P) and he’s big enough to cover like half the size of the dish lah!!

You’ve also got some Scallops, Mussels and not one but TWO different types of clams (NZ Storm Clams and Korean Clams) in there for good measure (as if the dish was not already impressive enough LOL). Oh, and let’s not forget some good ol’ Tau Pok which is a MUST-HAVE with any Laksa. Although it may not be seafood, it does count as a vegetable component (we think) and Mummy always said to eat your vegetables!

Enjoy slurping up those Laksa noodles with that rich, creamy gravy. They do take a bit of the healthier route in terms of the coconut milk ratio but you’ll still enjoy that Laksa flavour.

PRO TIP #1: Mix in that tasty Sambal for maximum flavour!
PRO TIP #2: Don’t wear white top when you eat this! 😛 (or at least wear a plastic bib lah to be safe)

Right about now, some of you may be thinking “How the heck am I gonna finish all that?!?!”
Fret not my fellow foodies – this is the perfect time to mention that what you see above is definitely a dish made for sharing 😀

The Wholly Laksa (and the other dishes you’ll see in awhile) are definitely super-sized dishes! This means that it is highly recommended that you share them between at least 3-4 people unless you’re really feeling hungry, greedy, like a hero or all of the above!

Having said that, you can check the menu for the versions of the dishes that are made for 1 or even 1-2 pax to enjoy. For example, there is a version of The Wholly Laksa called ‘Seafood Laksa’ that may not feature all the same stuff but is definitely more suitable for a solo diner.

The Wholly Seafood Nasi Lemak ($60.00)

We were actually planning on going with the other noodle dish first… but in an amazing act of diversity, we’ve decided to go with the rice dish instead LOL

The Wholly Seafood Nasi Lemak is exactly what you expect it to be – a giant serving of Nasi Lemak that has some of the classic components intact but with A LOT more seafood than your run-of-the-mill serving.

A hefty serving of Nasi Lemak rice sits in the middle of this monster dish with plenty surrounding it! No chicken around thanks to seafood like Crayfish, Tiger Prawns and some shellfish including Mussels and Korean Clams. You’ve also got the mandatory egg component of Nasi Lemak in the form of some omelettes on the side.

One of my favourites parts of this dish was the unique inclusion of some Baby Squid which have been given a light batter and deep-fried for maximum sedap-ness! Also extra points for not excluding ikan bilis and cucumbers here (which are SO important with Nasi Lemak am I right?)

The Crayfish and the shellfish are actually prepared with some sambal already (and yes, it’s the Nasi Lemak sambal bawang we all love) but I think some extra sambal on the side would have given some extra kick to the dish!

Wholly Seafood Tom Yum ($59.90)

And rounding off the series is the Wholly Seafood Tom Yum! *droolz*
(I don’t know about you but Tom Yum always gets my mouth watering!)

The Wholly Seafood Tom Yum is brimming with seafood and some almighty Tom Yum flavour.

You can find Crayfish, Tiger Prawns, NZ Storm Clams, Scallops, Mussels, Korean Clams all in there, swimming in the tasty Tom Yum broth that has that spicy and tangy flavour we all love. There’s also some Abalone Mushrooms and noodles in there and it’s a winner!

And we haven’t even mentioned the crowning (or should we say clawing) glory – the Alaskan King Crab Leg! And it’s not just there as a prop okay! You can see the fleshy bits that are sooo satisfying to bite into and enjoy those fresh seafood flavours along with the Tom Yum. And don’t worry – shell cracking tools are available!

PS you can choose Rice or Vermicelli but we went with.. Mama Noodles! 😛

So they’ve made the move to FOMO and they’ve got an expanded menu. But don’t worry – Mr Wholly still has all your favourites on the menu okay! Seafood buckets galore with your favourite sauces all accounted for but don’t forget to try some of the new items too! You might just find your new favourite 😀

Don’t be intimidated by the huge serving sizes and prices! Remember – it’s meant for sharing so gather up the gang, share the cost, share the good food and share the good times! Plus, they’ve got individual and couple servings too okay so check it out!

PS they got delivery on Oddle too!! 😀
