The MICHELIN Guide Singapore 2021 was recently released. While the majority of accolades were awarded to non-Halal restaurants and eateries, there were a few Halal options listed in the categories of Bib Gourmand Selection and MICHELIN Plate.
Besides the top award of MICHELIN Stars, the Bib Gourmand is awarded “to restaurants deemed to be both good quality and good value”. The MICHELIN Plate” is given to restaurants that have neither been awarded a star nor a Bib Gourmand, but are recognized for having very good food”. The MICHELIN Guide Singapore 2021 awards are given by Michelin Inspectors.
There are 2 Bib Gourmand and 6 MICHELIN Plate that are Halal and/or Muslim-owned in the MICHELIN Guide Singapore 2021.
HJH MAIMUNAH (Bib Gourmand)

The legendary Hjh Maimunah is a familiar name to many. They have been churning out delicious traditional dishes since 1992. Highly recommended dishes are the Ayam Bakar, Ikan Bakar, Rendang and Siput Sedut among many others.
BISMILLAH BIRYANI (Bib Gourmand)

Highly rated as one of the “best Dum Biryani” in Singapore, this humble eatery prides itself on its traditional approach and attention to detail when churning out their Dum Briyani.
SPRINGLEAF PRATA PLACE (MICHELIN Plate)

You will find plethora of options on the menu but Springleaf Prata Place has been known for their Prata since they started in 2003. Their Ultimate Series introduces a new creative Prata every year. This year sees the new Praclette (Raclette Prata) but fan favourites include the Murtaburger and Plaster Blaster.
PONDOK MAKAN INDONESIA (MICHELIN Plate)

In a quaint corner of Queen Street, you will find Pondok Makan Indonesia. It seems this hidden gem has plenty of good food on the menu including Mee Rebus, Tahu Goreng and some pretty tasty Satay too.
ALLAUDDIN’S BRIYANI (MICHELIN Plate)

A popular name when it comes to Briyani in Singapore. They have several new outlets but their Tekka Market stall is the most popular. Take your pick of Mutton Briyani, Chicken Briyani or Fish Briyani.
TAMBUAH MAS (MICHELIN Plate)

Another legendary name when it comes to traditional Indonesian cuisine in Singapore. Tambuah Mas has been around since 1981 and continues to be a favourite with many. It’s also a very popular choice for weddings.
Y.R.A. RASOOL FATIMAH (MICHELIN Plate)

Another hidden gem in a pretty popular eating haunt we know as ABC Brickworks Food Centre. The Prata appears to be the top choice at this Muslim-owned hawker stall but they do have other options like Mee Goreng and the likes.
NASI LEMAK AYAM TALIWANG (MICHELIN Plate)

Last but definitely not least on the list is Nasi Lemak Ayam Taliwang. This classic dish is served with a twist in the form of the spicy Ayam Taliwang which originates from Lombok. Other variations include Balado and Sambal Ijo as well.
The number of Halal entries listed in the MICHELIN Guide Singapore continues to grow every year. Here’s to seeing more entries in the MICHELIN Plate and Bib Gourmand categories. Who knows – perhaps we might see a first Halal Michelin Star awardee in the near future 😀
