Big Fish Small Fish (aka BFSF) has grown immensely popular since the were introduced with a bang a few years ago. From humble beginnings, they now boast FIVE outlets islandwide! Besides expanding their number of outlets, they’ve also expanded their menu 😀 With more great makan on the menu, this means you don’t need to have FOMO lah!
In fact, that’s what one of their latest menu items is called 😛
So BFSF gained its claim to fame with their signature Fish & Crisps (we’ll get to those a little later I promise!) but there’s more to it than that.
I guess when you have an excellent system for that #DeepFriedGoodness, the sky is the limit which is why they’ve got more to offer now. The best part is that it’s not just fish so you’ve got something for everyone. And trust me – the new additions are power!
The new FOMO Family Bucket has everything you need for a feast! There is no ‘fear of missing out’ here because it’s packed full of goodies! (And when they say “bucket”, they really mean it!)
To start with, you have 2x servings of their signature Battered Dory. This is the same great serving you’d get with your classic Fish & Crisps of course. A new addition is the Battered Chicken! You get 4x servings of this great crispy chicken that’s crunchy and absolutely delicious. I REALLY enjoyed the Battered Chicken!!
On top of that, you also get 8x Fried Calamari. a whole serving of Crispy White Bait (that one later we show you ok), 2x Coleslaw, 2x Pilaf Rice and whole huge serving of their signature Crisps (which are sliced and fried upon order!). Like I said, that’s a feast for sharing and everyone’s gonna get their fill 😀
There’s no way I’m going to go on without also showing you the Signatures at BFSF right? You may be very used to them and probably already have your favourites by now 😀
You can always go for the classic Fish & Crisps – your choice of fish, lightly battered and given the #DeepFriedGoodness treatment and then paired with fresh Crisps by default. But did you know you can also pair your fish with other Sides too? Fries, Veg Salad and Pilaf Rice are also options! But I guess one of the biggest choices is WHICH FISH TO CHOOSE?
My personal favourite is the HADDOCK! You may also know it as the classic Cod.
It’s got a firm, flaky and quite ‘lemak’ flesh which (to me) give it a great bite and texture. With a light batter, you still enjoy the natural tastiness of this premium fish.
The ALASKA POLLOCK is actually the newest addition to the line-up at BFSF! It’s a great fish fillet that is somewhat similar to the Haddock but at a more affordable price point!
We paired this one with a Veg Salad! Great choice if you’re looking for a healthier choice 🙂
Like we mentioned earlier, you also have the option of going SPICY with your fish ???
We decided to try the spicy powder, which is applied after frying, on 2 different types of fish!
You’ve got the popular SEA BASS which everyone loves because it’s a simple yet delicious fish. With flesh a little softer than the Cod varieties, this would also go great with some Pilaf Rice!
The classic choice at BFSF is the Dory for sure. If you’re a fan of Dory but looking something that’s a level-up, we’ve got just the thing for you! Why not try the PREMIUM WHITE? It’s a more premium choice but won’t break the bank 😀
At the start, we introduced you to the FOMO Family Bucket… Now, we introduce the grilled equivalent – the SURF & TURF PLATTER! It’s great for sharing between 2 pax but if you’re feeling super hungry (or super greedy :P) you can try and whack all by yourself LOL
It’s got a whole fillet of Premium Dory, 2x Grilled Chicken, 3x Grilled Shrimp, 3x Grilled Calamari plus comes with Fried and Pilaf Rice. While the FOMO Family Bucket was good for about 4 pax, this one should really be just nice for 2 lah the way I see it. Share a bit here and there to get a taste of everything on the platter 😀
Just like the Fried versions, you also have a choice of fish when it comes to the Fish On Grill selection. We tried the Salmon and Premium White for starters. Personally, I feel that the grilled fish go perfectly with the Pilaf Rice and Sauteed Vegetables!
Besides those 2 choices, you might also consider Sea Bass or Haddock for your Fish on Grill. Crisps, Fries, Veg Salad and Pilaf Rice with Sauteed Vegetables round up the choice of Sides to go with.
I know we’ve highlighted a lot of food so far at BFSF. But there’s more! 😛
They’ve got awesome Mains but they’ve also got awesome Appetizers too. And to be honest, it’s gonna be hard to resist so many of them! Garlic Butter Mussels with Garlic Toast, 8-inch Cheese Sticks and Shisamo all sounds delicious right?
We tried the Salted Egg Calamari with Bonito Flakes which is the ultimate combo. I mean, Bonito Flakes makes everything better! 😀 The Crispy White Bait is so addictive! Once you start dipping in the sauces, you’re gonna find it hard to stop lah!
And speaking of sauces…
BFSF is also famous for their free flow of sauces! You’ll get the chance to enjoy a wide variety of both creamy and ‘wet’ sauces with your food. From the sweet to the spicy, feel free to mix-and-match to find the perfect combo!
PRO TIP: You cannot go wrong with their Salted Egg sauce! But anyways, some of their sauces rotate from time to time so be on the look-out!
It was already an amazing selection at BFSF but with an expanded menu, it’s even better than ever! With something for everyone at great value for money, this is still a great place whether you’re looking to chill after school, grab a meal after work or just gather up the gang for that next makan session.
