D’Laksa – Shiok Asam Laksa FTW!

D’Laksa is a brand that is BIG just across the Causeway! We’ve seen their outlets many times when we travel to KL and JB (especially at Sutera Mall :P). But truth be told – we always end up eating something else (psssst boat noodles).

But at the same time, I’m actually quite a big fan of Asam Laksa so I was happy to see that D’Laksa was finally in Singapore, located in my ‘hood at Century Square and was certified Halal! So I popped by and tried a bowl of their famous Asam Laksa to finally see what the fuss was about.

Asam Laksa Special ($5.00)

WOW!! I really enjoyed the Asam Laksa!! It had a the right balance of sourness and spiciness to give it a really bold and strong flavour. It’s not very spicy lah but that tangy broth really gets your appetite going!

Tried the Asam Laksa Special which is actually Asam Laksa plus a few of their Fishballs. To be honest, I wasn’t too sure about the Fishballs but decided to just try it anyways since I was there. I was actually quite surprised! The Fishballs were actually really good and also went well with the Asam Laksa gravy.

The noodles had a good bite but were a bit chewy overall. I still quite enjoyed it though. Especially when you enjoy it nice and piping hot! I’m sure that many will say the best Asam Laksa is still enjoyed on the streets of Penang but since I’m not there, this will more than suffice πŸ™‚

You could order just the Asam Laksa on its own for $4.00 or even just the Fishballs in Asam Laksa gravy for $2.50.

Fruit Rojak ($2.50)

You should also consider getting a bowl of their Fruits Rojak aka Rojak Buah!

Okay wait.. let me back up a bit LOL! As you may or may not know, one of the best parts about Asam Laksa is the copious use of Petis! They even have this giant dispenser hanging at the counter where they squeeze out the Petis (aka fermented prawn paste) onto your Asam Laksa!

And this is the same glorious Petis they use for the Fruits Rojak πŸ˜€ So you’ve got turnip, cucumber and pineapple chunks bathing in this Petis and some crushed peanuts on top. The Petis has a bit of spice and kick to it so you know it’s gonna be good! But I do wish they’d cut the turnips and everything else into slightly smaller pieces.

This is one of those rare occasions where we get to cover the entire menu in one post πŸ˜› Because that’s it! They have 3 items on the menu so your choices are narrowed down for you. The good news is that those 3 menu items are actually pretty good πŸ˜€

There is a small counter for you to have a quick meal if you’d like but it’s not really a sit-down and relax kinda place. I’d advise you to takeaway is the best. The food comes in these handy little disposable bowls anyways so it’s convenient.

If you’re a fan of Asam Laksa, you should try this. If you haven’t tried it before, this is a good chance!
D’Laksa has 2 other locations at Compass One and Hougang Mall by the way!
