Núodle – Freshly Hand-Pulled Lan Zhou Beef La Mian!

Do you like La Mian? The (not so) recently opened SingPost Centre is fast becoming a popular hot spot for makan in the area. Yes, there are a few options in the vicinity including Paya Lebar Square, One KM Mall and even Haig Road Hawker Centre (if you’re willing to take a bit of a walk).

But there’s a place SingPost Centre that’s gaining quite a rep… A rep for La Mian!

La Mian – those noodles that are hand-pulled which means you’re getting freshly made noodles every time! At 牛一嘴 Núodle, they specialize in serving up authentic Lan Zhou Beef La Mian. You can even see them making the noodles in the back! Hand-pulled and cooked right before your very eyes 😀

The finished product

So that’s how the noodles come to be. When you order your noodles, you can actually choose the preferred thickness of your noodles (another plus side to making the noodles fresh!). Thin, Normal, Thick, Flat and even Leek Leaves (which I think is those crinkly ones) noodles are at your disposal. The ones in the photo above are Normal thickness by the way.

But what kinds of dishes can you enjoy your fresh La Mian with? Well, you actually have a few choices to be honest.

Signature Beef La Mian

Lan Zhou is a city that’s know for its Beef Noodles Soup and this is exactly that. The obvious top choice at 牛一嘴 Núodle is the Signature Beef La Mian. The broth is actually a clear broth that’s best enjoyed when piping hot and while you can enjoy the beefy flavour, I’d say this is actually a very light broth.

The flavour is enhanced by adding some chili. You can choose your level of spiciness when you order but you can actually adjust it to higher levels yourself after you get your food because the chili can be found at your table. So if you’re not sure, order the lower levels and adjust yourself. (But it’s not that spicy lah) There are two sizes – Regular and Large – the one I ordered is the Regular and it’s a very generous serving.

And of course, there’s beef glorious beef to be enjoyed! 😀
But for a beef eater like myself, less more is more so you can always order extra beef on the side.

Sliced Beef 100gm ($8.80)

ZOMG that beef! Soooooo sedap lah! 😛

Reminds me so much of the Beef Noodles and Sliced Beef I enjoyed while in Hong Kong (which the post is coming soon I promise!). The beef is sliced thinly and served at room temperature (not cold like in HK) but you can always just add the beef into your noodles and broth.

100gm is actually quite a lot and probably enough to share between 2 people. You could always go bigger for the 200gm at $16.80 if you’d like.

Cool Mixed Beef La Mian ($9.90)

They also have something like a dry noodles dish. The Cool Mixed Beef La Mian still features those great springy noodles but this time, there’s no broth. Instead, it’s kinda like a noodle salad in a way because you’ve got this dressing which you mix up and plenty of veggies too.

Cucumbers, tomatoes and even some beancurd give this a very fresh feel and flavour. Besides that and the beef, the other flavour you might detect is a soy-sesame kinda flavour courtesy of the dressing. So be sure to mix up well!

Seafood La Mian ($8.80)

If you’d like to skip beef altogether (why would you wanna do that?!?!?) then perhaps the Seafood La Mian might be more agreeable. Seafood like mussels an prawns accompany your La Mian in a light broth.

My Mum ordered this and found the broth a bit.. too light LOL so please adjust according to your taste as necessary okay (we asked for some light soy sauce from the staff).

Braised Egg ($1.50)
Pickled Radish ($2.00)

Quite a few side dishes to choose from to go along with your La Mian. They’ve got a few interesting ones like Tofu Salad (which is apparently that noodle-y thingy), Seaweed Strips and Pickled Cucumber and Radish.

We went with the classics namely the Pickled Radish (which is REALLY well-pickled if you know what I mean) and some Braised Eggs which go really well with our Beef La Mian for sure.

They have this offer to make yours a Set Meal which is actually pretty worth it by our calculations. It’s $3.50 and you get to choose 1 Side Dish and 1 Drink. Seeing as to how the sides range between $1.50 to $2.00 and the drinks between $2.00 to $3.80, good deal we say!

BUT for the side dish, you can’t choose the Pancake.
What pancake you ask?

Beef Pancake ($3.90)

Okay everyone you MUST have this when you visit 牛一嘴 Núodle okay!

The exterior of the pancake is SUPER CRISPY! Very shiok to makan! FUYOH! Dip into a little vinegar on the side for maximum power! Although I do wish there was a bit more filling though 😛

At first, this reminded me of the Goulash pancakes from HK but these have no ‘soup’ inside and are definitely very crispy (the Goulash pancakes are not) so these are definitely different. Choose from either the Beef Pancake ($3.90) or the Green Onion Pancake ($2.90).

Ba Bao Tea ($3.80)

You could have Lemon Tea, Sour Plum Drink or a soft drink but try the Ba Bao Tea if you’re after a hot beverage. It’s got flowers and dates and that sort of thing (like macam Air Bunga lah). I find it quite nice leh.

This is also included as part of their ‘Pastry Set’ which has been sold out the past few times we visited. It does look quite inviting so hopefully it’ll be available some time soon. For now, it’s Beef La Mian and Ba Bao Tea 😀

AND DON’T FORGET THE CRISPY BEEF PANCAKE!! 😛
