We all have our own versions of comfort foods am I right? And I’m pretty sure that for many, comfort food = the creamy, cheesy, gooey goodness that comes from a dish like Macaroni & Cheese π
Yes, there are quite a few versions out there and we had the pleasure of trying one of the newer names in the Mac & Cheese game awhile back. They have made quite a name for themselves thanks to their bakes and if you (for some reason) haven’t heard of them before, please allow us to introduce you to Mama’s Boy Bakes!
Mama’s Boy Bakes is a home-based baker/cook and they’ve got some really tasty food that’s right up everyone’s alley. We’re talking about freshly cooked food delivered to your doorstep and ready to dish out and enjoy! They have got a few signatures that are a MUST TRY but they do have some specials from time to time.
Well, we’re obviously looking to try the dishes that someone is famous for and we were in for quite a treat.
So let’s dig in and see what we find!
Arguably the dish that they are most famous for – the Mac & Cheese from Mama’s Boy Bakes is going to be hard to resist for any lover of this traditional dish with a bit of a Mama’s Boy Bakes twist.
But first, a closer look inside…
So the Mac & Cheese comes in a few different serving sizes – Small, Medium, Large and even a handy Muffin Tray thingy (prices vary of course) which,Β depending on how many people you’re feeding, should make it easier to find a suitable serving size.
There are 2 things I absolutely love about this Mac & Cheese. #1 – the Panko breadcrumbs are a perfect topping and give a nice crispy texture and you chomp down on that creamy Mac & Cheese (which is made using premium cheeses apparently). PRO TIP – If you can’t finish it when freshly received and need to heat it up later, use an oven or oven toaster to retain so you retain (at least a little bit of) the crisp topping. Microwaving will not achieve the same result.
#2 is the generous amount of chili padi included in this version of Mac & Cheese! Given that it may not be a traditional ingredient for this dish, it is definitely a welcome addition to the recipe π That spicy kick is well worth it!
Next up was their Beef Goulash which is their take on a pretty uncommon yet probably familiar dish.
This one doesn’t quite have the same ring to it as the Mac & Cheese but still a good choice for those who may not be into the cream/cheese combination.
So the basic dish in mind here is Hungarian Goulash which is typically a tomato-based beef stew. Really heart-warming stuff to be honest LOL and I have had Goulash before so I kinda know a little bit of what I’m feeling about it.
I think the biggest striking distance between the actual dish and this version which has been incorporated into a Macaroni dish is that the beef is minced here instead of in actual bigger chunks/morsels like the actual stew. But not that that’s a bad thing. In fact, it might actually be a good thing because it’s easier to eat and definitely a good choice for kids y’know what I mean?
But I guess the point I’m trying to make here is that in the end, this kinda reminds me of a Beef Bolognaise more than Beef Goulash. Especially with the cheese and herbs. And instead of Lasagna, it’s Macaroni π
Anyways, both the Mac & Cheese and the Beef Goulash come in various sizes of course. Check out their social media posts for pricing details.
And last but not least, some dessert in the form of Tiramisu!
To be honest, I don’t really like coffee-flavoured desserts like coffee ice-cream or coffee cake or Affogato and stuff like that. But I will usually make an exception for Tiramisu since Mascarpone Cheese is involved π Mama’s Boy Bakes’ Tiramisu is only available on weekends though so be sure to keep a lookout for when orders open.
They also have specials once in awhile (this month is apparently Chicken Cordon Bleu if I am not wrong) so there are special treats in store once in awhile. Be sure to follow them on Facebook and Instagram to keep updated okay!
Many thanks to the Mama’s Boy Bakes Team for feeding us! π
