Chiko Pollo is fast becoming one of our favourite places to head to for makan! We first discovered them last Ramadan and learned why they’re such a big hit with many. The best part is that they’re always looking to add new dishes to the menu ππΌ.
When we heard there was going to be some new additions coming up, we couldn’t help but head down and check it out. Quite a hearty selection with something for everyone to enjoy. Here’s a sampling of what we enjoyed and what’s in store when you next visit Chiko Pollo.
Start off with some starters that are perfect for sharing!
Actually scratch that last remark – because when it comes to the Calamari Frittes, I don’t think I wanna share π. Lightly battered squid is given the #DeepFriedGoodness treatment and the result is golden brown perfection. Best enjoyed with their homemade Chiko Aioli for maximum SHIOK!
I was originally set for the Cajun Crispy Chicken Wings but settled on a worthy alternative. The Loaded Beef Fries come with a super generous topping of chili beef, PLENTY of addictive cheese sauce, creamy mayo, sweet relish and some crispy beef bacon for good measure. Perfect to accompany your other dishes like burgers and the works. In fact, speaking of burgers…
One of the best things I had during our recent visit was the Triplesome Swiss Mushroom Burger hands down ππΌ!
Not one but THREE beef patties paired with cheddar cheese, their own homemade Swiss Mushroom sauce, crisp lettuce, Garlic Aioli all in between some potato buns. From the first bite, I knew I had something really special in my hands. The beef patties were perfect – juicy but with a little char on the outside.
They’ve got other burgers on the menu at Chiko Pollo including the Classic Beef Cheeseburger and the Double Bacon Burger but I reckon the Triplesome Swiss Mushroom Burger tops my list for now.
A little bit of Middle Eastern influence comes in the form of the Madras Lamb Shank with Yellow Rice.
In case you’re wondering – yes, it does taste as good as it looks in the photos! The lamb shank itself was super tender and the flavour of the Madras curry that coated the meat paired perfectly. Enjoy with some fragrant Yellow Rice, pink pickled onion and some beetroot Raita for an explosion of flavours.
If you’re in the mood for pasta, they have got quite a selection for you to choose from including classics like Beef Bolognese and Turkey Ham Carbonara. But do consider sampling some of their creative additions to the menu like the Brown Butter Smoked Duck Pasta, Truffle Ribeye Mushroom Pasta and my eventual choice, the Prawn Pasta.
Quite a myriad of flavours and textures with this dish. Soy Butter, Chili Padi and a hearty topping of Parmigiano cheese paired with your pasta and prawns. A sous-vied egg and some Tobiko crown this fusion creation.
If you’re a fan of prawns, they also have Gambas Prawns with Sourdough bread as a starter too by the way.
We also could not resist sampling a pair of Pitas! The Woodfire Truffle Chicken Pita seemed like a familiar favourite that would not fail and the Lamb Pink Pita was too eye-catching to ignore π.
The lamb was juicy and definitely full of flavour and the red peppers, pickled onions and coriander provided a freshness in contrast to the spiced lamb patty. The spice seasoning paired perfectly with the ‘pink’ sauce which is actually a beetroot Raita which gave a nice tangy kick.
But if you’re not into lamb, you cannot go wrong with the Woodfire Truffle Chicken Pita. A familiar favourite that’s tasty and won’t fail you. There’s also a Pulled Beef Brisket Pita too by the way!
Last but not least, we settled on the Smoked Duck Pizza because I’m a sucker for smoked duck! Just a simple pizza with smoked duck, spicy soy and plenty of Mozzarella cheese.. what more could you ask for?
If you’re a Daffy Duck fan and can’t bear to devour his cousin π€£ then perhaps the Beef Pepperoni Pizza, Truffle Mushroom Chicken Pizza or a classic Margherita Pizza might be more up your alley. Get a couple of pizzas and some Truffle Fries on the side and your makan sesh with friends is settled!
Oh! And don’t forget to wash it all down with some refreshing beverages πΉ.
Whatever the next occasion may be – a celebration with family and friends, a makan sesh with makan kakis, a casual date night or maybe even just a ‘me time’ meal.. come check out Chiko Pollo and enjoy!
