So we are back at a place which might be considered the site of one of our most ‘controversial’ posts ever. But hey it’s no sweat of our back and if the food is good, we’re obviously gonna come back so we can report to our readers right?
So Toasties has made a few changes since they opened a few months ago. They’ve got a signage up out front and they’ve just tidied up their menu. And to start 2015, they’ve got a special sandwich which is actually a bit too tempting to pass up because everyone is curious when something with ‘local flavour’ is put to the test.
So we headed down and now we present to you – The Satay Sandwich!
So you still get to choose your bread of course. We decided to go for the Crunchy because we wanted a little more… errr.. crunch! LOL Anyways it turned out to be a great choice to go with the Satay filling but more on that later.
So they will pile on the meat, which in this case is chicken, generously after you’ve selected your bread. Then they top it off with some onions, cucumbers and Satay sauce. Well, I know most of you like to choose all kinds of sauces for your sandwich but it’d be weird here so I reckon you’ll probably (and logivcally) have to stick to the Satay peanut sauce that comes with.
The chicken meat was tender and it actually tasted like the meat you’d get with Satay! I guess they went right when they were seasoning and marinating the meat! The Satay peanut sauce was also pretty tasty too!
Not sure how the other breads would have stacked up but the Crunchy bread was perfect because it gave a bit more texture which resulted in a more satisfying bite. Imagine taking a nice big chomp out of that toasty bread!
So this is not included in the $8.90 price for the Satay Sandwich set so we decided to add a little extra.
You could however, add $2.90 when you have the other sandwiches on the menu and get this plus a drink too.
These are not just your average cup of hotdogs and cheese sauce by the way.
There are actually THREE different types of sausages in there! Chicken, Cheesy Chicken and Turkey!
Top if off with some nacho cheese and you’re all set. (Hint: We actually asked for them to squeeze in some Honey Mustard sauce and Chili sauce for that extra kick! Power!!)
Adam’s Verdict:
Satay Sandwich 3.5/5
Maryah’s Verdict:
Satay Sandwich 3.5/5 — Cheesy Franks 2/5
All in all we’d say this is a sandwich definitely worth trying. But you’d better hurry because apparently it’s only available for a limited time only and there’s no mention about when this will end so faster faster!!
