Ai-Suka – Tahu Bagedil, Takoyaki & Snacks Galore!

People are always telling me not to do so much snacking. But with so many great snack out there, can you blame me for wanting to snack all the time πŸ˜› With all things, enjoy in moderation lah should be okay right?

Well, if you’re gonna snack then it might as well be on the good stuff. In a (not so) quiet corner of Tampines, you’ll find small shop that’s big on snacks. The best part – they’re selling some HOT favourites so you know that it’s totally worth it.

Ai-Suka is in an area that has plenty of makan. It’s just around the corner from Afghanistan Restaurant and nearby other notable landmarks like Saffrons and Al-Azhar. But I’m pretty sure that Ai-Suka has some tasty treats you can’t get at these other places. No wonder lah people are flocking to Ai-Suka πŸ˜€

Tahu Begedil ($4.80 for 6pc)

If there’s a currently trending snack, it’s gotta be Tahu Bagedil. I think that in the 2nd half of 2018 and now into the first half of 2019, Tahu Bagedil is still HOT HOT HOT! We’ve still got people sending us messages all the time asking for recommendation on where to find this snack. Well, we’ve found a really good one πŸ˜€ (Confession – this was the FIRST time we were trying Tahu Bagedil and it was awesome!)

It’s a relatively simple creation – potato cutlet (aka bagedil) is wrapped in tofu skin and give the #DeepFriedGoodness treatment. Seems easy right? Well, apparently it’s a lot harder than it sounds! Plenty of offerings of this sort but apparently not all make the cut.

Ai-Suka seems to have perfected their recipe. A really crispy exterior and a fluffy hot potato and meat filling is a winning formula. Dip generously into the sweet-spicy Chili Kicap and I guarantee you’re going to want a 2nd (and possibly 3rd!) serving. In fact, we’ve heard that people travel to Ai-Suka all the way from across the island to get their hands on these prized Tahu Bagedil… sometimes a dozen at a time!

Please leave some for others okay… (and by others, I mean us :P)

Takoyaki ($4.50)

I REALLY ❀ TAKOYAKI! In fact, there are only a handful of places that I’d say serve up a really tasty Takoyaki. Today, I am glad to add Ai-Suka to that list!

The Takoyaki dough is flavourful (which is really important to me) and their homemade sauce compliments everything perfectly. Extra 1000 points because they tak lokek Bonito flakes πŸ˜›

They have 2 options for you – the ‘Normal’ range has Crabmeat or Sausage and is priced at $4.50 while the ‘Premium’ range has Prawn or Squid at $5.50. There may not be many options but these Takoyaki are definitely worth it. And who knows, maybe they’ll add more toppings in future.

And speaking of adding more in future…

Pad KaPrao ($7.90)

A dish that was JUST added to the menu at Ai-Suka when we visited was the Pad KaPrao (aka Pad Kra Pow). This stir-fry of meat (in this case, beef) along with the holy Thai Basil is a delicacy for sure. Served on a bed of rice and you’re all set.

Hoping to see more flavourful and creative dishes like this on the menu at Ai-Suka. Along with their other snacks of course. Besides the Tahu Bagedil and Takoyaki, they also have other familiar favourites like Nuggets, Cheese Fries and Cheesy Hotdogs of course. Big hit with the kids!

Cooling Lime

Wash it all down with some of their refreshing beverages! We tried their signature Cooling Lime but my personal fave was the Watermelon Yoghurt (which would have been awesome as an ice-blended!). They’ve also got other stuff on the drinks menu too like Mango Yoghurt and even Brown Sugar Milk Tea to satisfy your Boba addiction πŸ˜€

Desserts are also on the cards. You can even get your Halal Magnum Mini fix! Available at Ai-Suka!

It may be easy to miss this hidden gem now because of all the construction going on (because of the MRT and the Tampines East CC renovations) but it’s totally worth the visit. Those who know are visiting regularly. But if you haven’t visited yet. drop by and grab some snacks and more. You might even get hooked on their Tahu Bagedil like so many others πŸ˜€ Support okay!
