Viet Thai Cuisine – Aroy Mak Mak Makan!

Fork & Spoon foodcourt in Toa Payoh is a big favourite withย  lot of us for sure. I’ve been going there for years! So long that some of the stalls are no longer even around :P. Just like you, I have my favourites there… but I recently discovered the Viet Thai Cuisine stall and it’s serving up some pretty delicious food!

Don’t be intimidated by the wide array of dishes offered on their menu okay. This just means they’ve got something for everyone! I think it’s quite natural that we have some familiar faves in mind when it comes to Thai/Viet food.

They’ve got some Viet classics like Beef Pho and Vietnamese Fried Kway Teow but we went with some Thai classic for this particular visit ๐Ÿ˜€

Tom Yum Soup

What’s more classic when it comes to Thai food than a serving of Tom Yum Soup! ๐Ÿ˜€

Plenty of great flavour here and also plenty of goodies in the soup itself. Look out for fish, chicken, prawns and a lot of kick! What makes this serving even better is that they serve it in a hotpot. This keep our favourite hot-spicy-sour soup bubbling and shiok!

Pad Thai ($6.00)

Pad Thai! This happens to be Mein Bruder’s favourite Thai dish. Every time we visit Thailand, it’s a MUST HAVE! The version here at Viet Thai Cuisine is definitely a good one. Great flavour and I like that when it’s served it’s still a little ‘wet’ (I don’t like my noodles too dry!).

They’ve got prawns and squid mixed in with the delicious noodles. By default, it’s not that spicy but add some chili powder (available at the counter) to add more kick. And don’t forget to squeeze the lime and mix in with the crushed peanuts!

Tom Yum Fried Rice ($6.50)

Pineapple Fried Rice ($6.00)

You have quite a few choices when it comes to the Mains. Just for the Rice section alone, we had such a hard time choosing so we took 2 different types of fried rice ๐Ÿ˜›

A duo of fried rice – Tom Yum Fried Rice and Pineapple Fried Rice. I personally preferred the latter to be honest. Pineapple Fried Rice is actually my choice of Thai-style fried rice most of the time (despite its unique history LOL). The Tom Yum Fried Rice is a good choice if you’re looking for something more on the spicy side because it’s got a strong sambal kick.

Other choices in the range include the Olive Fried Rice and the Seafood Fried Rice too.

Basil Chicken Rice

There’s no way I was not gonna miss out on a quintessential dish like Basil Chicken Rice right? ๐Ÿ˜€ I mean come on, it’s Pad Krapow Gai! One of the best and most familiar Thai dishes around. In fact, whether you choose chicken or beef, it’s the Thai holy Basil that really sets this dish apart.

As always, this is a very flavourful dish and I really love the bold and distinct flavour of the Thai holy Basil. But I think next time, I’ll try and ask for extra spicy when I order! ๐Ÿ™‚

Black Pepper Beef ($8.00)

Plenty of choices when it comes to the meats too. Once you’ve decided on chicken or beef, you have the difficult decision of choosing how it’s cooked (difficult because all also sounds delicious LOL). We went with Black Pepper but you may also consider Tom Yum, Lemongrass, Oyster Sauce and Garlic. Some also got Squid as your protein choice!

One thing worth noting is that the meat is sliced (and not minced like the Basil Chicken style). This means more bite as you enjoy with your rice or noodles. For us, the bold and peppery flavour of our Black Pepper Beff complimented well with the Pineapple/Tom Yum Fried Rice we had.

Mango Salad ($5.00)

Sambal Kang Kong ($6.00)

It’s always nice to have some Side Dishes to accompany your Mains. Wanted to have my usual serving of Som Tam (Papaya Salad) which they have on the menu but decided on the Som Tam Mamuang (Mango Salad) instead ๐Ÿ˜€

Stir-fried vegetables abound including Beansprouts and Kang Kong. Some Thai Fried Omelette also sounds nice right? And you could order them individually but there’s also a Trio Platter which has Thai side faves like Thai Fishcake, Pandan Fried Chicken and Fried Spring Rolls.

Speaking of Spring Rolls…

Viet Spring Rolls ($6.00)

So here’s the Vietnamese part of our meal ๐Ÿ˜›

The Viet Spring Rolls has prawns, lettuce, carrots, beansprouts and some rice vermicelli all wrapped up in these super thin rice flour skins. It comes with some dipping sauce (kinda like a Hoisin type sauce) but don’t be afraid to dip in the other sauces.

Fish Sauce, sweet Thai Chili Sauce, pickled Green Chili Sauce and even some Chili Powder is a great way to add more kick to any of the dishes you order at Viet Thai Cuisine.

Mango Sticky Rice

PRO TIP: YOU MUST ORDER THE MANGO STICKY RICE!! โค

The sticky rice was soft and warm when served – just the way it should be! Enjoy with the creamy coconut milk and sweet Thai Mango for that ultimate sweet end to your meal. They have 2 sizes – $5 and $8. The one we had was the $5 which you can see is quite generous.

And I repeat – YOU MUST ORDER THE MANGO STICKY RICE!! ๐Ÿ˜›

I’m pretty sure you’ll find something you like on the menu at Viet Thai Cuisine stall. Maybe even something not featured in this post – simply because it’s a really big menu! Fork & Spoon Toa Payoh has always been a place where we find good food. You can add Viet Thai Cuisine to the list.
