Beef Up hasn’t been around for very long but it’s already gained quite a following. Its menu may seem simple but it holds many treasures… BEEFY treasures π So we finally made it down to check out what all the beef was about and we were actually pleasantly surprised.
So Beef Up specializes in a taste of Taiwan – not only in the form of its beefy delights but also other familiar Taiwanese favourites like Chicken Cutlet and Sweet Potato Fries. We’d originally thought that Beef Up was applying for Halal certification but we found out today that it is in fact Muslim-owned! Along with a co-owner (whom we’ve heard is Taiwanese) with authentic Taiwanese recipes, they’re ready to serve it up!
First up was one of their specialties – the Beef Noodles.
What you see pictured by the way, is the Regular size. There’s also a ‘Large’ size ($8.00) which gives you a bigger serving of noodles and beef. There’s also a choice of noodles by the way (but more about that later).
So the Beef Noodles comes with a hearty serving of noodles with some stewed beef and veggies on the side, all swimming in a hearty beefy broth. A seemingly simple combination but a classic one that can’t go wrong right?
Let us start by confirming for you – the beef is SUPER tender! The morsels of beef are bite-sized but you’re going to want to take your time with the beef for sure. Savour each bite because the beef is probably the best part of the dish! And rightly so π If you order the Large, the pay-off is definitely more beef.
You have a choice when it comes to the noodles – either U-Mian (which is what we chose) or Ban Mian, which is the flatter noodles you all should be familiar with. The noodles definitely have a good bite so slurp away along with that beefy broth. All in all, a very hearty serving of Beef Noodles!
Besides the Beef, they also have Braised Chicken to go with your noodles too.
If you’re not in the mood for noodles, then they have a few Rice options for you too.
For some reason, only the Braised Chicken was available with Rice ala carte – the other options were under the ‘Bento’ section. So we went for the ‘Steamed Beef’ set. A (longer than we’re used) mess tin will bring back memories of NS for many we’re sure and it also holds quite a variety of components that make up this bento set.
That same tender beef sits atop a bed of rice along with some veggies like broccoli and carrots plus half a boiled egg for good measure. By the way, the pickled white radish on the side is POWER! We do wish there was a bit more of that beefy gravy though.
There’s also a Chicken Cutlet and a Salmon Rice set to choose from.
Trust us – you MUST order some sides when you makan at Beef Up. They’ve only got 3 on the menu (for now) and we ordered 2 π
Y’all know for sure that Chicken Cutlet is like THE popz Taiwanese snack right? Well, this one at Beef Up is really good! You even choose a flavoured powder that they’ll sprinkle over these amazing crispy chicken pieces. We chose Black Pepper by the way. Other choices include Plum, Wasabi and Seaweed.
A great crispy chicken cutlet – a winner in our books for sure. MUST HAVE!
The Sweet Potato Fries were good too (we had ’em with Plum flavour) but perhaps a bit too thick-cut. But definitely a popular Taiwanese snack too from what we gather.
Don’t forget to get the chilli to go along with your makan – both are SPICY! π
A final note is that Beef Up is located within a foodcourt kind of set-up within a commercial building but don’t let that put you off. It’s worth the trip to try these beefy delights. If you’re worried about the crowd, visit just before or just after lunchtime. Or just go on the weekend lah.
The point is – go! Support! π
