786 Char Kway Teow – One of the Best CKT!

First of all – y’all gotta watch this TikTok I made about this Char Kway Teow – https://vt.tiktok.com/ZSeypWt1Q/

FUYOH power right! I’m very sure that many of you have visited this stall before but I’m also pretty sure many of you may not have yet. 786 Char Kway Teow is located in Bukit Merah and has been around for many years. I guess the most interesting fact is that this stall is owned and run by a Chinese Muslim convert.

(He’s even got his conversion document pasted at his stall and regularly takes breaks for solat!)

786 Char Kway Teow specializes in and sell only ONE dish – Char Kway Teow (CKT). And I am sure may of you will agree with me that a Chinese-style Char Kway Teow is quite different from your run-of-the-mill Kway Teow Goreng. There’s just something about that ‘wok hei’ factor that makes it extra yummy!

Well, since the owner, Mr Anis, is a Muslim convert, you won’t find any pork lard or sausages (lup cheong) here like you would in a normal plate of non-Halal CKT. He still follows his Grandma’s recipe by the way! But obviously Halal version lah πŸ˜€

Char Kway Teow ($3.00)

You can order either the $3, $4 or the $5.50 serving of CKT. I ordered the $3 serving and it was just nice for 1 pax. But if you’re a big eater than maybe the $5 might be a good idea πŸ˜€ (You can add extra cockles for $1 and/or extra Kway teow for $0.50)

You’ll get enjoy tucking into a piping hot serving of his CKT with Kway Teow (and a little bit of Yellow Noodles) stir-fried with fishcake, beansprouts and a little bit of veggies. He doesn’t use a lot of the sweet black soy sauce but that means you’ll be able to really savour the flavour of the shiok sambal which he makes himself. A seemingly simple dish but OH SO SEDAP! Like I said, it’s about that ‘wok hei’ lah!

And of course, a lot of you will love your CKT with a serving of cockles right! πŸ˜› You can ask for more cockles for an extra $1 if you’d like. More chili or less chili also please let them know okay no problem!

Confession – I don’t like cockles so I didn’t include any (I can hear you all shouting “Woiiiiii mana bolehhhhh no keranggggg? LOL) so if you don’t want any, just let him know “mai ham” okay!

PRO TIP: If you visit on a day that the stall is supposed to be open but the shutters are down, Bro Anis may be taking a break to perform his solat! So be patient and allow him some time okay πŸ˜€ Thanks!
